On 7th November 2015, the BOE (the Official State Bulletin) published Royal Decree 1004/2015, of the 6th November, whereby the Regulations governing the procedure for the acquisition of Spanish nationality through residency were approved. These changes were provoked by the excessive length of time that the process was taking and by the increasing number of applications received in recent years. Therefore, the final provision seven of Law 19/2015, of the 13th of July, on administrative reform measures in the field of administration of justice and civil registry, along with this Royal Decree provides and develops a method of a purely administrative character, based on the electronic processing of an application in all its phases, allowing the time taken to deal with each one to shorten significantly.
